In Guyana it is Emancipation Day, beginning of August lots of cultural happenings and the like drums and more drums, creole foods and all it is a big big bachanal in the place, anyway what is happening here inthe UK, is summer time as wel and that is when everybody -feeling hot hot hot , and guess what, we have Emancipation Day celebration too, Big Bachanal on Sunday the 8th At the Maderia Lesuire Centre in Surrey Maderia Way, last year it was the first time the Berbice crew held the thing, Marsie and them girls and it was nice nice nice, man yuh feel like yuh home in Guyana.

they had the music, and the food was original, Cassava pone and them things, they had a Souse, god that thing was finga lickin good, I could'nt get enough, it was sweetness in my weakness, Lord Have Mercy, and this time they doin it again, and to tell you more there was heavy Quech Quech dancin and all that, see the Berbice dance really Guyana Style, it was a great comin together of Guyanese on a cultural vibe.

Here We Go Again!

Here We go again, sure it has been a few days, an what has this producer been up to? quite a lot to say, funny how quickly the weekends are coming, and the week keep rolling by, Gosh what really is happening to our lives, yesterday young, today old already, read recently they are thinking of preparing for Christmas in August, what the hell is going on, soon we will have a five month year instead of twelve.

Never the less this producer hasbeenquite busy on the Guyana front that is, yes, yes, yes, it was the Guyana Sports and Family Fun Day, I think this was the fourth yea now, but God it is way Behind GOd's Back, Picketts Lock and a damn long way to go, think they should move it from tere now , way to far, this was hosted by the Guyana Sports Development Association, (GUSDA) very good effort, but the thingis people are getting their wires crossed, in May it is the Guyana Folk Festival, normally the fun day is held that time, but due to the incliment weather, it as decided to shift the Fun Dy laer in the year, and to commeorate Guyana's Independence Celebrations there will be a Folk Festival, so the folk festival is now held in May, come rain or shine and the Fun Day is bing held inJuly August when the weather is good.

Itwas a good sunny Sunday, the weather was good and it was a nige get together, this producer ensure there was a good taste of Sorrel and vodka, that sure tasted good, and there was of course Mauby and Gnger beer , and Guyanese food galore. I enjoued every moment ofit but sad to say had to go to work the next day, but it was a true Gyanese thing and if you did not hear about it, ensure next time you do, got some nic pictures for you tolook at , there will be a lot more activities coming up soon, Guyanese activities, and this producer will keep you informed, so have a good one until we meet again.

The Journey Continues!

Well , well, well, and that is a very deep thing to fall through for if you can't swim then ask heaven to help you , or you would surley drown, never the less we are all swimming in this big river together, so we have to help each other come high, or come low. Have you noticed how the weeks and the months are going quickly, pretty soon you will be Dreaming of some kind of Christmas, be it white ,red or sunny whatever it is it will be another Christmas on your doorsteps, I had a great weekend, the sun was out and yes, I made the very best of it, no complaints. I still feelin mash up.

So we talking Culture Vulture, I got to tell you a little bit about the Amerindians of Guyana, they are a marvelous set of people, and in 2008 I had the chance to learn a bit of these great people way of life and to eat the food, yes that was truly good, I drank Piawari, Fly, ate Labba, and wild hog, and I had some Tumma Pot, if you want to know about these great foods then you need to have a look at this great DVD thats called 'The Amerindians and their story', I tell you its something to die for , knowledge wise that is- so with that I am going to leave you with my old saying, Guyanese Style.- Calabash a -float a -trench, but e kyaan float a -ribah (Meaning The Calabash can float on the trench but it cannot float on the river - Some people can succeed in doing simple tasks, but are out of their depth in doing more complicated ones. Be good until next time.

Our Kind Of Folk

Howdy Fambily, Howdy Everybody, yes that is sure a way to greet someone in the olden days of living in Guyana, at least it meant good morning, good afternoon, how are you and so much could be interpeted from that simple greeting, that somewhat is also diminishing in it's own little way, this time Nah Lang Time as the saying goes , Lang Time Gat am blow lamp, this time gat am lectric lite, yes no more flambows and bottle lamps its flourecent lamps and full electricity, time has changed, but yet there are traditions that we cannot forget, especially our folk songs, the traditional dances of the Indians and the Africans, the Amerindians and their culture, some things will never die, remebr the old moonlight nights of story telling, the folklores, to name a few, dark moonlight nights and its the tall White man who travelled from village to village, sometimes in the burial grounds, looking at the full moon, he was cslled the MOON GASER, Then there was the fire Rass, the Old Higue who sucks the blood of babies at night, and you never go into thouse after midnight, take off your shoes, and walk backwards into the house, wo wo, some deep stuff we endured at that time, looking back at it now, it was some era to have lived in, hence my DVD Myths Legends and Folk Traditions which I Filmed during Carifesta 10 in Guyana, talking about informtion?-this DVD takes you on that journey down memory lane,
We have come a long way yet the haunting taste of ,pepper pot, Metem-gee, souse, blackpudding, cookup rice, fried rice, chowmein, aloo and bygan choker, garlic pork, Roti and curry, dhal phuri, and the list goes on, fried bread and fish, these tastes will forever remain with us beause we are Guyanese, a land of One People, One Nation and One Destiny-Remember Myths Legends And Folk Traditions, this is a must have and a must see if you really want to have a visual taste of Guyanese Culture, and before I Go -a proverb for you
- Accouri Know 'e teet' trang, da mek'e eat banga. (Accouri: is a small animal resembling a rabbit .

Banga: The hard seed of the awarra fruit.

The Accouri eats the bangra because it knows that its teeth are strong.

This means - you have a strong point, an asset on whiich you can depend, and you have the confidence that you can use it, especially in a crisis. so, Meh Gan, Till Next Time.

Making the Guyanese Thing A Reality

So, we are tracking down the Golden years of Guyana, at least as much as I can remember, and at the same time making sure there is a visual connection in some way that you and I can cherish, at least there will be a ray of sunshine in this cold and grey weather here in the UK, and as it gets worse we will ensure there is that Rum and Coconut water to quench the pallet and better still, if there is a cold coming on in the system, then its time for that one drop of Guyanese High Wine, and if that cannot be had then we will try the bush rum, but that is a different story, that one is not for the faint hearted, that is a bush mans medecine,so this producer decides we should visually document as much as possible, because when its gone, the ancient and historical buildings and all, at least there is something visually there for the new generation to look back on and say This Was, And Still Is My Guyana.

So this time I still runnning with the Camera on my shoulders and up comes the Mashramani CelebrationsFebruary month, for those of you who never heard the word, its an Amerindian word that means Celebration, and if you really want to know more abot the Amerindians, then you have to also see that production that was done by this producer, and to check out the Kynamaro site by my friend Claudette DeViera Fleming, this lady has some great stuff of our Amerindian people, will tell more of that when we get to that part of the story, so we talking bout Mash, you saw Carnival in Trinidad and other Islands, so Guyana's is simular except we in Guyana Really Enjoy ourselves, it is not a stiff thing it is a Guyanese thing which I can say in Guyanese term-Madness fuh Days, mind you that is a bit of our creolose dialect, and I will be passing some of our proverbs down your way so you can learn a Guyanese thing or two, thanks to my Good Friend Ms Joyce Trotman, that lady is a genius, she can really talk a good creoleose and speak the Queen's English perfectly too. Anyway the subject is Mash and creole, there is a new word they are now saying , let me write it big and big GUYANIAN, Lord help us what is that and when did that arrive, that was'nt even on Noah's Ark when the floods came the only thing that was there is one word -GUYANESE, so get it right, so if you really like a good whine up and shake up you have to come to Guyana for the Mash Celebrations every 23rd February and is also Republic day, that is when you will eat as we say TILL YUH BELLY BUS, of course that means untill you are over filled, so I made this DVD called The Golden Years Of Mash, so if you have never seen a bit of Guyana's Mash Now is the time to check it out, it is Music with action, before I leave today I must begin to bring you back to your Guyanese Proverbs, this is how we are going from today, so until we catch up tomorrow, I leave you with something to try and see if you can say it slowly, and then remember it all the same- ME AH DEAD HAAG A'READY, ME NA CA' E' FO' TINK. Now my dear people that translates, means , I'm already dead, so I don't care if I smell stink. ( Things can't get any worse, so I really don't care) well take care until tomorrow and remember this is a Guyanese thing.

Lets Make Guyana A Happening

Sure its Summer and what else can we think of, but tropical issues, and some great places to go, bet you never thought about Guyana, this beautiful Paradise, that is hidden in South America formely a British Colony, never the less even though it is considered to be a part of the Caribbean, it is unique in many ways, think about the culture, and most of all the food, different to the max, Black Pudding, Souse, Cheese Rools, and Cow Heel Soup and Guyana Rum, even though I have left here many years ago there is something that unusual about the place, I was there in 2008, and it was a great adventure, could not help but lavishing after the food for one thing, so out came my Camera, and what happened , you are so right i became hooked on the beautiful scenery, the people , its culture and more, just could not get enough, and most of all the history, what struck me most was the people, it was just as though the sun was shining even though it was raining, love , a friendly face and smiles all the way, but guess what I went deeper and instead came up with the most unusual pieces of music that was once produced by Guyanese String bands over the years, bands like the Rythmaires, Combo Seven just to name a few, the sixties era that was a blast from the past and images that just kept coming back, so from that I came up with this Fantistic DVD production which I called the Definitave Collection, just Guyanese Nostalgia, the days of Radio Demerara, and those old British Guyana Days, want to know what it looked like then, I tell you what, check out the DVD, it is a blast from the past, Gosh I gotta go, will tell you more when we meet to continue this Journey down Memory lane, musically that is, have a great day and oh by the way Remember The Good Times and those Good Old Days its worth the walk down memory lane,- And the Guyanese Saying I gwine com back soon.
